Traditional services follow the Order for the Lord's Day from the PCUSA Book of Common Worship and follow the pattern of "Gathering, The Word and Sending."
The preaching for the services typically follows the lectionary readings for the day which are a suggested group of scripture readings for each day offering up a passage from The Psalms, Old Testament, Gospels and Epistles used by millions of Christians to build Christian unity and a regular reading through the Bible. Hymns for the service are usually selected from The Presbyterian Hymnal (the blue hymnal of 1989), although on occasion others are printed in the bulletin.
The Traditional services usually include an anthem from the chancel choir, music on the Steinway piano or the sanctuary organ, a prayer of confession, an Act of Praise (often the "Gloria Patri"), a Time for the Children, The Prayers of the People and the Lord's Prayer, and the use of one of the creeds from the Book of Confessions (often "The Apostles' Creed").
