Just one month after the founding of Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church in 1927, women members formed the Women's Auxiliary to serve the needs of our church and study the Word. Although 75 years have passed and both our name and the needs of the church have changed, Presbyterian Women of PCPC continues the legacy of our founders: dedication, service, spiritual growth, and fellowship.
Presbyterian Women of PCPC is organized into circles that meet monthly for Bible Study. Circles are small groups and represent the "unbroken lines of friendship and love." Our insightful lessons help us to both grow in our Christian faith and witness to the promise of God's kingdom. In addition to our fellowship through committees, our entire membership meets three times annually for food, fellowship and inspiring programs.
The time and talent graciously provided by our membership is essential to the mission of our church. For example, Wednesday Night Suppers are organized, set up, and served by PW members. The weekly and seasonal flowers and decorations in the Sanctuary are other endeavors of PW, as is the distribution of these flowers to the ill or homebound members of PCPC.
Serving the greater community has always been important to PW-PCPC. We donate merchandise and manpower to the Clothes Closet which benefits the homeless and is operated by Church Women United. PW supports local elementary children in need of school supplies and clothes. Our Annual Ingathering benefits The Spring, Lifepath Hospice, and other worthy causes. Our members outfit bears and dolls for the Salvation Army Christmas Project. In 2005, PW presented Tampa General Hospital with a record 761 knitted caps for newborns. Money for these projects is raised through the sale of our cookbook, Love Served Daily.
All All women members of all ages are both welcomed and encouraged to join PW-PCPCPC; we are informal, intergenerational, and give lovingly with open hearts. Time spent working with other women for the benefit of our church and community is an exceptional opportunity for meaningful fellowship and lifelong friendships.
The Bible Study for the year 2007-2008 is Ready or Not: Following God's Call by Kathy Smith and Lane Henderson. The Bible studies are conducted by "Bible moderators" who are knowledgeable about the Bible and the curriculum and encourage group participation.
