David Bonnema (pronounced bo-na-ma) started his ministry here on June 8th as our new Youth Coordinator. He comes from Spokane, WA. and he comes with a love for Jesus Christ, a love for students and a love for the church. David enjoys being active and is especially fond of hiking, biking and tennis. If you ever need a tennis partner, he is your man. David studied Theology and Sociology at Whitworth University in Spokane. Whitworth is a small (3000 students) liberal arts college that is affililatedwith the Presbyterian Church. David also received a Certificate of Ministry with a specialization of youth ministry. This program was equivalent in credits to a minor.
Our Search Committee was impressed with David's maturity. He shared his deep desire to see our students grow deeper in faith, more integrated into the life of the church and closer in their relationship to their parents. At the same time, David knows how to have fun and we are excited that he is bringing his enthusiasm, his wisdom, his creativity and his faith to bear in our ministry. One thing he told our committee was that "games are important for student ministry because students by nature want to have fun. I have found the more creative the game, the better."
In addition to his new job here at PCPC, David will be getting married in early August, and then bringing Sarah, his new wife with hime to live and work in Tampa. We hope you will greet David, and Sarah, when she arrives, and welcome them to PCPC!
Stop by and meet David at the office Monday-Thursday.
